“Antigona” is a drama that warns of the dangers of stubborn self-will, but also a drama that praises the power of a woman “reaching in a struggle that is not in the forces of the female nature”. In that sense, Antigona is often described as “an ideal image of a Greek” and “one of the most beautiful characters in world poetry”. In any case, she is the first great female figure in world literature. In fact, it is beyond the current Greek tradition, because it is great in spirit and is characterized by enormous endurance and will, and it opposes tyranny by defending the laws of humanity. Her thought and willingness to sacrifice receive a monumental dimension. In this way, to this day, Antigona is experienced as a universal hero who gives resistance to violence.
