The epic of Gilgamesh is the oldest written monument in world literature. It began between the third and second millenniums before the new era, but its beginning is located hundreds of years ago and is related to the existence of Sumerians, one of the oldest peoples. Although science has not proven where they come from, they have settled the fertile land between the Tigris and the Euphrates. The most characteristic of Gilagamesh is its nature. He is a third person, and two thirds of God, who immediately gives him supernatural qualities and places him in the ranks of the mighty, the brave. Gilgamesh is a typical character – a hero for mythological stories, who with his power keeps the principle of good from the forces of evil.
